Unwind The Salad: Prologue

saladloveOkay, so this is based off of a book that I was reading called 'Unwind'. It will take place in the same universe, but I'll try to change the plot as to be original and what not. If you like character driven action stories, I'd suggest this one. It's a pretty easy read, but it's fun none the less. 'Nuff rambling enjoy the prologue to Unwind The Salad!
Scott was never really the greatest kid while growing up. His grades were lackluster at best, and he got into too many fights for anyone to count, but for his parents to do this to him?
That’s just… That’s just morbid!
Scott found out he was being unwound the day before it was suppose to happen, that was his parent’s first mistake. When you are about to unwind your child, its best they don’t find out till the juvy police are at the step of their door, no time to fight back, no time to run.
The second Scott found out he was being unwound, he ditched. He ran to his room and locked the door; his parents must have just thought he was upset, and that he was just going to pray his final prayers in peace. How wrong they were, he packed a bag with only the essentials, extra clothing, bottles of water and boxes of food he kept In his mini fridge, and all the cash he had; 49 dollars and a 50% off coupon for Camelot, the local dine in restaurant.
Scott got on his bike and rode; he must have been at least 15 miles away before he stopped to take a break. When he did it was only for a short breather and some water, then he was off again. Someone running away from being unwound had to be fast, more importantly they had to be smart. Now Scott wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but he definitely had some street smarts.
It was sunset when he arrived at the next town. ‘Good, I’m making distance, and they probably haven’t even realized I left yet’. Scott wished he had time to say goodbye to the people he truly cared about, even though there were little of them left.
AZ is Scott’s closest friend in town, no matter how stupid Scott was, AZ was always there to try and talk some sense into him. He and AZ had always made jokes that if Scott kept acting up he’d get unwound, of course neither of them took that seriously; until now.
Jahkar is Scott’s cousin, he was much stronger than Scott, and due to his quiet demeanor and the scar on the left side of his face everyone thought he was a rebel, like Scott. Jahkar was one of the few people Scott would ever feel sympathy for; he knew it was his fault people tried to get in fights with Jahkar. If there was one thing that ever made him think twice about his actions, it was Jahkar.
Xenia is Scott’s girlfriend, or, was at least. Xenia and he broke up more than two months ago, and it was all his fault. He had been acting like a jerk, as per usual. Xenia decided she’d had enough with his ‘bad boy’ attitude, and she dumped him; claiming she never wanted to speak to him again. Despite all this Scott still felt true emotions for her.
Scott has been riding his bike for almost 4 hours now, taking breaks when he needed to. He had never planned for what to do if he got unwound, mainly because he never thought he would.
Scott thought about what he could do till he turned 18. Once you’re 18 you legally cannot be unwound, they can arrest you for a few years and make you pay a small fee, but they can’t unwind you.
Scott was 15, meaning he’d have to figure out a way to survive for 3 years without ever getting caught by truant officers. Ever since unwinding has been legalized there have been plenty of positions for them. It was truant officers job to catch kids who are running away from being unwound, once caught they deliver them to the nearest Unwound House, and leave them there to get unwound.
Scott was not going to let that happen though, ‘I know I can do it! I’ve got the determination not to die, the heart to survive, and the spirit to- oof!’ Scott had been so caught up in his wandering thoughts that he rode his bike right into a car. Not just any car though, this particular car just had to belong to...
