This Chapter will finally explain what the hello this is about, probably. Anyway it is the exposition of the story's setting.
Chapter III: Briefing
The briefing room was the largest on the ship. It was a bright white auditorium style room with two layers of seats that supported most of the crew. Early men were able to sit, however Francis' group was one of the last to enter so they had to stand.
Although the crew was very large, the room was very quiet. Francis saw Captain Michael in the center. He stood patiently while the crew got comfortable. The Captains were always second to be awoken, the first being the doctors. Automatic functions in special caskets awoke the doctors with the ability of sight and movement, this way the doctors could look around and find their tools to repair their bodies and prepare to help the crew. Then the Captain would be awoken by the doctors so that he could give the go for awakening of the crew.
As everyone finally entered and settled, Captain Michael began his briefing, "Good awakening men! I hope that you have begun to recover after our long voyage and can understand me. By the time I'm done you should be able to at least speak full Americo words. Welcome to the Class N planet of the eleventh system in the 3rd quadrant of the VII sector. For short, we will call this planet N/XI, you may also call it by its Flesh Elf name of 'Braistir'. Many of you know of why you are here because you signed up for the mission, but your memory may be a little rusty."
Francis could understand the Captain, however not everybody could. One such was Sollux who was obviously getting frustrated. The Phoenix Squadron seemed to understand.
Captain Michael continued, "N/XI: Braistir is the first planet that seems to be naturally alive in the Livinchi Galaxy. We have encountered Flesh Elf colonies on lively worlds, but scientists claim that life was only there recently, suggesting terraformation was preformed."
"However that does not seem to be the case on N/XI: Braistir. There is no Flesh Elf colony in String Years of this place and no evidence of terraformation. One expedition of annalists that came before us claim that this world has evidence of at least eight-million years of multi-cellular life. This has gotten scientists excited."
"Our objective is to establish a colony on the world. We are to clear a suitable area, stay as clear from local creatures as possible, and stay alive until the Azantrai would arrived to support with more men and supplies. The ideal site has already been prepared. It is a small research station that previous science expeditions have used. We are the first colonizing attempt of this world and will expand the perimeters of this station."
"I must warn you that N/XI: Braistir is a dangerous world, which is why we military folk are here. There have been exactly 6,378 recorded lifeforms that are dangerous, and we are sure there are more. I expect the best behavior and cautiousness on this world."
"99th Battalion soldiers, this is still a colonial operation. Whatever you do you must defend colonial personnel, because even though you may have the guns, they are the ones making sure you can breath the air around you. And for colonial personnel, don't piss these guys off, cause you'll get some hurting."
"I will give the landing instructions for planet fall once we get there, but for now I advise that you get to remember your speech and stretch your legs. If you need any help, just ask a doctor. That will be all."
Michael finished and the crew awaited his dismissal.
"Huzzah oi Terra!" Michael cried. The crew immediately stood still at attention. Michael screamed "39th Americo!"
"Huzzah oi Terra!" yelled the crew.
"64th Americo!"
"Huzzah oi Terra!"
"9th Sunic!"
"Huzzah oi Terra!"
"31st Tutur!"
"Huzzah oi Terra!"
"99th Americo!" Michael yelled the loudest.
"HUZZAH OI TERRA!"
"MEN!" yelled Michael, "Dismissed!"
The room emptied.
